Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and HowMedWorks covering HMW Study Companion (“the app”). By creating an account you accept them. If you do not, do not use the app.

This is a study tool, not medical advice

The app exists to help physician assistant students prepare for exams. Nothing in it (not a guide excerpt, not a question, not an answer from Phoebe AI) is medical advice, and none of it should be used to diagnose or treat anyone.

Do not use the app to make decisions about the care of a patient, yourself or anyone else. If you have a medical concern, speak to a qualified clinician. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Medicine changes, and study material can be wrong or out of date. You are responsible for checking anything you intend to rely on against a current authoritative source. Passing an exam is your work; we do not guarantee any result.

Your account

• An account is for one person. Do not share it or your password.
• Give accurate information, and keep your email address current.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• You must be 16 or older.

What access you get

A signed-in account with no purchase can answer a set number of questions each day, read Phoebe’s study tips, and use Phoebe AI within a daily message limit.

Unlocking a guide gives you that guide’s cards and question bank for as long as the app is offered, and a free week of full access the first time you redeem a code. A subscription unlocks every guide and raises the daily Phoebe AI limit for as long as it is active. The current limits are shown in the app and may be adjusted; we will not reduce what an active subscription gives you without telling you first.

Phoebe AI usage is metered per day and per minute. These limits exist because each message costs real money to answer. Attempting to work around them is a breach of these terms.

Payment

• There are three plans: $7 for a 7-day trial that continues at $47/month unless cancelled, $47/month, or $399/year. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you are.
• Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see your card details.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time from the billing portal in the app; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
• Each of the two trials, the free week from a guide code and the paid $7 week, is available once per person.
• We may change prices. An existing subscriber keeps the rate they signed up at for as long as that subscription continues without interruption. We will give notice before any change that affects you.

Refunds

Payments are non-refundable, including the $7 trial fee. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the period you are in, and you keep access until that period ends. Nothing here limits any refund right you have by law.

Unlock codes

• A code is single-use and tied to the email address the purchase was made with.
• Redeem it on an account using that address. If you bought with a different address, contact us and we will move it.
• Codes are not for sale or transfer. A guide you have unlocked stays unlocked even if a subscription later lapses.

The content, and what you may do with it

The study guides, the cards cut from them, the question bank and everything else in the app belong to HowMedWorks and its authors. Your access is a personal, non-transferable licence to study with them. It is not a transfer of ownership.

You may not:

• Copy, republish, sell or share the content, in whole or in part, including by posting it to a study group, a shared drive or another site.
• Scrape the app, extract its content in bulk, or use automated means to collect questions, cards or answers.
• Use the content to train a machine learning model, or to build a competing product.
• Share your account so that others can use your access.

The guides sold separately as PDFs are covered by the terms of that purchase. This app gives you short cited excerpts of them, not the guides themselves.

Phoebe AI

Phoebe AI answers from Phoebe’s guides and cites what it used. It is a language model and it can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, and it will say so when an answer comes from general knowledge rather than the guides. Treat its answers as a study aid to be checked, never as a source to be quoted.

Questions in the bank are drafted against Phoebe’s guides with AI assistance and reviewed by her on an ongoing basis. If you find one that is wrong, the thumbs down under a question is the fastest way to tell us.

Do not put personal health information, your own or anyone else’s, into Phoebe AI.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app to break the law, to harass anyone, to probe or interfere with its security, or to disrupt it for other students. Do not attempt to gain access to data that is not yours.

Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and we will tell you why. Where a breach is not serious we will ask you to put it right first. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of anything you have paid.

Availability

We work to keep the app running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. It is provided “as is” to the extent the law allows.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including exam results, lost study time or lost opportunity.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and we will tell account holders by email about any change that materially affects them. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
